A new feature on Google Maps will allow users to view local and worldwide disaster alerts, and is now available to users, Google announced on 25 January. Called Google Public Alerts, the new feature draws on weather, public safety, and earthquake alerts from federal agencies to supplement Google Map searches. Whether or not an alert will appear in the results column depends on activity at a location, severity of the alert, and the search query.

7.0-magnitude earthquake struck northern Peru today. The quake struck around 12:45 p.m. near Peru's border with Brazil at a depth of about 90 miles.
According to the USGS, the quake's epicenter was about 350 miles northeast of capital of Lima, and 50 miles north of Pucallpa, Peru.
